A growing number of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom are organising to shift part of their financial support for home from simple remittances into structured investment in commercial agriculture. The Nigeria–UK Green Gold Forum, held in Leeds and organised by Xtralarge Farms and Resorts in partnership with the Nigerian Community Leeds, is aimed at connecting diaspora Nigerians with opportunities in commercial farming, agri-real estate and agritourism back home.
Organisers say a follow-up forum and the formal launch of a diaspora-focused 'Farm Estates' initiative are planned for the United Kingdom and Canada in August 2026, intended to give diaspora Nigerians a structured, collective pathway to invest in production-level agriculture rather than only supporting family consumption needs. The push reflects a broader continental trend of diaspora communities redirecting part of their remittances, which for Nigeria alone reportedly exceeded US$20 billion in official flows in 2024, toward productive agricultural investment.
