Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, formally launched the 2026 farming season in Niger State with the distribution of mechanisation support to farmers across the state's 25 local government areas. The equipment handed out included 250 tractors, 50 combine harvesters, 1,500 planters and 150,000 bags of fertiliser, alongside other farming tools intended to support the coming planting season.
Describing the intervention as a move away from subsistence farming toward a more commercial, mechanised system, Tinubu said the distribution was meant to improve productivity and livelihoods while contributing to national GDP, tying the state-level rollout to the federal government's broader food security agenda. The event drew senior government officials and ruling-party leadership, reflecting the political weight being placed on mechanisation as part of Nigeria's wider agricultural strategy.
